I started my food, travel and lifestyle blog in 2014 juggling a full time professional career in the accounting and legal profession because I felt an urge for a creative outlet, an urge to create, an urge to run something of my own that I felt I would be passionate about. Something I knew I would love doing even if I felt tired after work, something that would keep going where ever I went, something that would give what I would put into it. Something that would grow in parallel to my own personal growth and journey. And there I started my blog, See.Taste.Do.
I grew up in a humble Sydney home to migrant parents who worked hard for many years in the hospitality industry, running restaurants or cafes, to raise my brother and I and I was told, “Don’t ever work in a restaurant. It’s too hard. Go to school, go to university and get a good office job so you don’t have to work as hard as we do”. So I did. But years later, when my professional career matured, a creative stream was nagging at me and I knew I had to do something, possibly with food or something else where I could live it up and enjoy life.
I would always be in search in discovering new and creative things to do, to try something different beyond my day job: I did a design course, a photography course shortly followed, I would regularly try a new restaurant to cafe, learn to cook a new cuisine, turn up to that inspiring TEDx talk, go and watch that quirky foreign film, learnt Arabic even though my background was Chinese, learnt Indian classical and bollywood dance, travel to not so common places, watch a musical, listen to a live symphony orchestra, turn up to a little known foodies event and tell a story to an audience about how the location of the old Queen Victoria Building was once the home of the old Sydney Markets, and meeting new people along the way.
So the writing came first (which was natural with a corporate background), then design and then photography, becoming a jack of all trades when you run your own blog. All writing, photography and styling on this website are my own work.
I started writing for Weekend Notes an online publications which attracts readership in the millions in my spare time and then I started to write for my own blog. I write personal stories of my experiences mainly in Sydney, Australia but also beyond when I travel on a curation of things that I think you too would also love to ‘see, taste and do’.
Now, I am a food photographer for restaurants and hotels I love, and also love creating, styling and photographing recipes of good food that are easy to make and nourish your body and mind. I have a fondness for fresh produce, things that grow in farms, markets, restaurants and cafes, dance classes, musical theatre and getaways in luxurious hotels and resorts and that little unknown regional town where you can find that obscure handmade item to treasure. I love travel photography as well as capturing moments too at food events I love to go to. I love people who are passionate about what they do as their energy is infectious – you know who you are.
Coming from many years work experience in a large professional services industry and with my creative skills I learnt, a strong interest in the hospitality and lifestyle industry that’s been honed in since I started my online platform, I love consulting, helping and sharing knowledge with small businesses of my own fused experiences at a professional (yes I understand numbers, tax, legal jargon, finance, media, and risk management), creative and marketing level and seeing them grow and flourish. Some of the best connections I’ve made are when we have grown together.
Finally, the message that there is more to life than just work and material possessions was driven home to me after my dad passed away few years ago. Life’s disruptions tend to do this to you. It was Dad’s hard work, determination and inspiration over the years I was growing up that gave me the opportunity to ensure my life later on was that much easier than his, to be in tune to every opportunity that crosses your path, to be passionate, enthusiastic and love everything you do, and to simply experience and have a good life. I have much to be grateful for and I dedicate this site to him.
Live with Passion. Live with Purpose.
