Lockdown has resulted in the creation of some of the best dine-in experiences I’ve ever had. Some of the best meals I’ve had are the ones you can share with families and friend around the table where you cook the ingredients yourself. A Korean BBQ is one of them and now you can enjoy a Korean BBQ in the comfort of your own home with Eat Box Now home delivery.
When John Nguyen lost his job at Ernst and Young due to COVID-19 and came up with the idea of Eat Box Now. With COVID-19 introducing social distancing and restrictions on dining out which meant you couldn’t just go out to your favourite Korean BBQ joint and any other restaurant for that matter, Eat Box Now brings the Korean BBQ to Sydney homes within 35 km of the Sydney CBD. Dining in with authentic Korean BBQ experience could not be more convenient and delicious!
After feeling isolated from friends and family, Nguyen decided to launch Eat Box Now to replicate the social dining experience as best as he by creating restaurant-quality ready to cook Korean BBQ meal boxes that people could do at home.
The delivery comes in a large brown paper bags packed with all the meats, sides, salads, and dips needed. Eat Box Now currently offers 3 boxes to choose from ranging from $58 for two people or $116 for four or $249 for six people.
Each pack one includes a variety of meats (including bulgogi beef, boneless pork riblets, chicken and pork belly), vegetables and sides (kimchi, seaweed strips, pickled radish), dipping sauces and rice. Deluxe boxes include Wagyu beef and a bottle of soju (a clear Korean spirit).
I must admit with meats, I generally am more comfortable getting it from the butcher myself because I know it’s fresh and I rarely have them delivered. I asked John Nguyen, “How do you ensure the meat is stays fresh quality when it is delivered to your door?”
“We have two production runs on Thursday and Saturdays to ensure freshness of our products so it’s basically delivered on same/next day as when we produce it and we don’t use old meats. The meat is delivered with ice packs to ensure it stays cold and also stored in our cool rooms in our commercial kitchen,” John replied. The meat was delivered super fresh and already marinated ready for my BBQ.
My three tips if you order Eat Box Now:
- If you have a BBQ of some sort, I would recommend you use it to bring out the best flavours in the meats. I had a little Japanese robata grill and fired up some binchotan charcoal to grill my meats. Beautiful flavours emanate from this cooking process than if you just cook it on a pan. If you have a cast iron pan, use it as I find that’s the best way to cook meats. Alternatively, customers have the option to add a small gas stove and hotplate to their order for $60.
- Do order some soju, which is a delicious Korean peach wine
- The quantity for two is just about right for two reasonably hungry people. If you want to cater for three, I would suggest get the pack for four people.
- Eat Box Now delivers on Friday, Saturday and Sunday 10am-8pm. Plan the day you will consume and request delivery 24 hours before you plan to consume.
Most of the food prep, cutting and marinating of meats are already done for you. You just need to cook the meats and heat up the rice and a delicious and fresh restaurant quality Korean BBQ feast that awaits. Who’s hungry now?
