Next Door Cronulla is a charming, fun and fresh eatery cafe that epitomises everything that is Australia’s beach culture. Yes, we have gorgeous spots like Bondi Beach to the east of Sydney, Manly Beach to the north of Sydney and Byron Bay up further north, but look down south in the Sutherland Shire and you can also experience glowingly fresh food for brunch eaten by glowingly fresh locals.
From a distance walking towards Next Door Cronulla, the oceanfront alfresco dining overlooking North Cronulla Beach is appealing and it was filled with people waiting to be seated when I arrived around 10.30am for brunch. When I asked if there was a table for two, the friendly waitstaff told me “There’ll be a 5 minutes wait”. Sure enough, we were called to our table 5 minutes later and sat down in the alfresco table facing the ocean. It was a perfect spot to have brunch on the second day of the New Year.
Aside from location, the all day breakfast menu is equally impressive. The menu is a simple and sophisticated version of breakfast all day long with many dishes to chose from. Vegetarians are well catered for. Chose from something more substantial like the roast chicken salad with mizuna, witloaf, baby beetroot, piquillo, stracciatella and pumpkin hummus. The chicken was well spiced and deliciously tender; the traditional bacon and egg role with red cheddar, tomato chutney. For vegetarians, the jalapeno corn fritters with poached eggs, beetroot labneh, pita, pomegranate, chilli chutney, guacamole and sumac dish would be my choice. For something sweet why not try their Pepe Saya buttermilk waffles with berries, maple, marscarpone, honeycomb and mint. The variety on the all day menu will ensure you make an excuse to go back and try the other brunch dishes.
Their brunch drinks menus is equally impressive and I opted for their evergreen juice of green apple, celery and ginger.
The service is excellent and they make an excellent soy latte to go too.
The Allouch Family runs Next Door Cronulla, situated ‘next door’ to their flagship venue Sealevel Restaurant.
I’ll be sure to go again for brunch. It’s the sort of place you go to, to feel like you’re always on holidays.
