It’s easier to get together to eat it than spell it. Bouillabaisse. Seafood bouillabaisse, a seafood stew that has my Sydney foodie friends and I absolutely craving for it every year, where fresh seafood in a saucy spicy tomato shallow soup base is served steaming and piping hot, alongside bowls of garlic bread that is enough for everyone to share to help sop up the wonderful spicy juices of the soup base. Winter’s heaven.
At least once a year around this time in Winter, my seafoodie friends gather around the table at Graze MCA in Circular Quay and share our passion for seafood bouillabaisse. I have to say it’s not all seafood bouillabaisse as I recently tried one in Adelaide and was disappointed despite Adelaide offering some of the best seafood in the country. No seafood bouillabaisse lives up to the one at Graze MCA in Sydney – fresh, generous and full of flavour not to mention you’re dining with views of Sydney Harbour with a very clear view of the Sydney Opera House (it could be interrupted on occasion if a massive cruiseliner decides to dock there). We were lucky this time and there were no cruiseships and it was a glorious Winters day.
I’ve probably taken more photos of this dish since I’ve had my blog than any other dish. This would be our fourth or fifth year we have got together for lunch just to have this dish.
Also, because we know what we want, we now pre-order it to save time! The staff were fluid, friendly and efficient, always making dining there a pleasure and no stress. We always order oysters for entrees and the baby calamari (because I know where the seafood comes from – if it comes from Northside Seafood Suppliers, I know it’s high quality and fresh).
Desserts were different to what we had before and you have to try the fresh date and madeira pudding with butterscotch sauce and crème fraiche whilst it’s on the Winter menu. It was just divine.
With great company and a seafood bouillabaisse to share at Graze MCA, winter lunches do not come better than this.
