Curation of things you can "see, taste and do"

Coming up: Things to See, Taste and Do in Parramatta!

March 4, 2018 by Jenny

I’m excited to be involved in some exciting events coming up next weekend in the City of Parramatta. This weekend, if you have been following my Instastories I’ve been on the new Taste Food Tour, Taste of Australia tour that takes you along the Parramatta River via the rivercat from Circular Quay (it takes 1 hour 2 minutes) and you end up in the Western suburb of Parramatta sampling some the most delicious food and coffee the city has on offer. And I must say travelling via the river is a glamorous way to travel to the Western Suburbs of Sydney from the city. I discovered new restaurants and coffee shops at Parramatta this weekend and the most memorable being the Darcy Street Project, a social enterprise that aims to educate and empower the community of refugees, immigrants, disadvantaged, mature aged groups to gain experience and enter the workforce with confidence, ensuring they become employable in the future. What a wonderful initiative.

Now, next weekend more events are happening in Parramatta with the flagship festival, Parramasala returning from 9-11 March, which is not only an Indian cultural event but has undergone a transformation and involve cultures from all parts of the world. In collaboration, with the PARKROYAL Parramatta I will show case the things you can see, taste and do next weekend at Parramasala.  So come along and join the fun!

As the event goes on for 3 days you might want to stay at the PARKROYAL Parramatta who are offering a complimentary fuel voucher that includes complimentary daily breakfast for up to two adults at TABLE 30; AUD25 Caltex Fuel Voucher per stay; Complimentary Wi-Fi; access to their leisure facilities.

Here are some suggestions of things to see, taste and do next weekend at Parramasala in Parramatta, that will run for its eighth year from 9 to 11 March. This year Parramasala has undergone a transformation and will be inclusive of cultures from all parts of the world. Parramasala is a free, public celebration of the diverse and rich cultures in Sydney.

What to See, Taste and Do:

1. The Welcome Parade Friday, 9 March 7pm-8.30pm Town Hall to Prince Alfred Park (free) which will kick off the festival with a feast of colour, movement and sound with over 500 performers from more than 40 cultures. The parade will make its way from Parramatta Town Hall to Prince Alfred Square.

2. Dreamgirls of Bollywood Friday, 9 March, 8.30pm (free) Parramasala Main Stage, Prince Alfred Park, a celebration of the colour, dance, energy and excitement of Bollywood. Featuring an all international cast, Dreamgirls of Bollywood tracks the iconic costuming and dance performances through the many years of Bollywood films.

3. Simply Tarab Saturday 10 March 2018, 12pm at the Riverside Theatre (ticketed event) is a live presentation of music from the Golden Era of the Arab world. Performed in an intimate setting by a truly international cast of world class artists from Non-English speaking backgrounds, hailing from Chile, Iraq, Egypt, Lebanon, Syria and Australia, this show demonstrates under one roof the unifying effect that music and dance has, to break down cultural barriers.

4. Market Street, a street market celebrating all things ‘street’: street food, street rhythms, street music and street dance. Grab a plate and taste your way around the best of Sydney’s street stalls surrounded by colourful musicians and dancers.

5. Masala Nights – World Dance Congress Saturday 10 March Riverside Theatre 8pm (ticketed) featuring world premiere ‘masala’ of dance music and culture.
