Sundays are my sacred days for rest and recovery. As I work in the city during the week I usually don’t venture out to the city on the weekends all that much but I would not say no to a Sunday brunch experience at the Mosaic at The Westin Sydney. We turned up at 12.30pm, at the Mosaic today, took our time and dined well for brunch. Sydney hotels have some excellent deals happening at the moment and at The Westin Sydney you can have a full buffet brunch for $68 per person or $34 for children. This includes all you can eat cold, hot and dessert buffet together with fresh juices, tea and coffee. The venue is beautiful and the grandeur of architecture and interiors of The Westin Sydney will hypnotise you like a cobra. Set in an 1844 building with a modern annexe, it’s a sophisticated, spacious, light and airy, chic downtown hotel but without the feel of formality, enabling you to just relax and enjoy a Sunday meal. And ‘a meal’ would be an understatement. It is possible to eat enough food so that brunch at the Mosaic is the only meal you have for the day!
The highlight was the dessert buffet and in particular the pavlova which is known to the Mosaic’s kitchen staff as Paul’s Pavlova. Paul is The Westin Sydney’s Pastry Chef and he has this amazing pavlova recipe he keeps close to his chest. So well known is his pavlova to the kitchen staff that the they would fight over the left overs after brunch closes at 2.30pm. So if you are having Sunday brunch at the Mosaic be sure to try the pavlova. It’s white, fluffy, softly trembling, not too sweet and has a beautiful texture when you taste it. A dessert that is a celebration that Spring has well and truly arrived.
The hot buffet has a good selection of beef and pork and the Mosaic chef can carve it up for you on request. They also can cook eggs anyway you like. So in addition to breakfast staples of bacon, sausages, baked beans, hash browns, you can also get assorted seafood of prawns, fish and mussels, flatbread with curried chickpeas, lamb with mashed polenta. From the cold buffet, you can get smoked salmon with various condiments as well as octopus and various salads. There is also endless supply of delicious fresh bread and cheese platters as well.
There was a wonderful selection of sweets from the dessert buffet. In addition to the pavlova, you can also indulge in banana brownies, Movenpick ice cream, green apple mousse, hazelnut milk chocolate gateau, tiramisu, raspberries jellies.
