Government House in Australia. Located in the Museum of Sydney site on the
corner of Bridge Street and Phillip Street, Circular Quay, The Governors Table
Bar & Dining’s design was inspired by the history and architecture of the
site, creating a hospitable space within the sandstone façade at The Museum of
Sydney.
This is another restaurant I would add to my list to take clients or
work colleagues for a workday lunch. I would label this establishment as casual
fine dining with its modern casual but classy twist with a good quality
food selection from their hearty menu at a reasonable price. The service is
efficient too. We had a choice of sitting inside or outside and I chose to sit outside
as I prefer natural light, fresh air, and people watching. I asked the restaurant manager Eddie, “Hmmm, what do you recommend?
I do need rush off to another meeting in an hour”. Eddie says to me “Prix
Fixe Lunch is a good option for you.” I love it,
starters and mains or mains and desserts all set out for you.
Governors Table Bar & Dining have just launched their new winter lunch menu
together and with a good value Prix Fixe Lunch available for CBD diners to enjoy
Mondays to Fridays from 12pm. The Prix Fixed Lunch menu is perfect for diners
short on time which is pretty much all cityworkers like me. Prix Fixe Lunch Prices are: Main Course with a Glass of White or Red
Wine $29 / 2-Courses with a Glass of White or Red Wine $39 / 3-Courses with a
Glass of White or Red Wine $49.
Executive Chef Marco Adler is behind this menu with Fresh Catering (who owns and operates The Governors Table) Adler worked closely with the heritage site’s colonial gastronomer to draw reverence to the flavours from the days of the Governor Arthur Philip I left the table content and happy.
Large Plates
I love seafood. This is a simple, healthy filling meal from new lunch menu. This is the smoked trout salad, preserved lemon, red tip cos, asparagus and spelt. Essentially it has fresh smoked trout, with broken grains of brown rice scattered in the bowl and fresh greens with an irresistible flavour.
Pumpkin gnocchi with buratta, peas, mint, walnut butter was a hearty, soft, beautifully textured Mediterranean-style plate was delicious and perfect for a Winter’s day.
The Chicken was crispy and golden on the outside and succulent on the inside plated with bread sauce, crimson grapes, cima di rapa.
Dessert
With dessert I just saw ‘Hazelnut ice cream’ and I said “We’ll have that”. The poached quince tart is served with hazelnut ice cream or perhaps I should say the hazelnut ice cream was served with poached quince tart. Bits and pieces of crunchy hazelnut in this creamy ice cream. I didn’t mind the quince tart and the hazelnut ice cream complemented it well.
